Anagen Effluvium is a form of generalised hair loss in its growth phase causing massive and radical hair loss in a short period of time (1 to 4 weeks).

This loss can be up to 80% of the total hair loss and affect almost all follicles that are in the growth phase (anagen).

Hair stops growing due to inhibition of the dividing cells in the follicles.

There are several causes that can provoke effluvium and thinning hair and its intensity will depend on the pathology that provokes it: genetic diseases and hormonal alterations, such as hypothyroidism, endocrine alterations, infectious conditions, chemotherapy, some medications with side effects on the hair, diets lacking in certain nutrients such as copper, iron, essential fatty acids or vitamin C, exposure to X-ray and/or Gamma radiation or toxins such as chromium, boron or arsenic.

Anagen effluvium is reversible and sufferers usually recover more than 90% of their hair in the months following the cessation of the cause.
